Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate resin printing costs?
Consider the resin used (ml ร price per liter), cleaning alcohol, energy, FEP film and LCD screen wear, plus a failure reserve โ all included in this calculator.
How many prints does an FEP film last?
On average 20 to 60 prints, depending on care and part size. Divide the FEP price by that number to know the cost per print.
Is resin printing more expensive than FDM?
Usually yes: resin costs more per liter than filament per kg, and there are extra consumables (alcohol, FEP, gloves). In return, the level of detail is far superior.
How much does it cost to print a 30 ml resin miniature?
With this calculator's defaults (30 ml, 6 h print), resin accounts for about 28% of the cost. The other 72% is alcohol, electricity, FEP wear, machine depreciation, your post-processing time, and the allowance for failed prints. Estimating from price-per-litre alone misses nearly three quarters of the real figure.
What profit margin should you charge for resin 3D printing?
The calculator defaults to 70% applied on top of cost โ which is NOT a 70% margin. Multiplying cost by 1.7 gives a real margin of 41% on the sale price. Markup and margin are different: markup is profit over cost, margin is profit over the final price. Mixing them up is the commonest mistake when you start selling prints.
How much isopropyl alcohol does each print use?
The default here is 40 ml per print, covering the wash and topping up what evaporates. It varies a lot with part size and with how many you wash in the same bath โ washing several at once spreads the cost. Adjust the field if you reuse settled alcohol.
