3D Printing Calculator

FDM and resin are very different technologies when it comes to cost. In FDM, the main expense is melted filament laid down layer by layer. In resin, you also pay for cleaning alcohol and wear on the FEP film and LCD screen — costs FDM doesn't have. Pick the right calculator for your printer below.

Resin 3D Printing Cost Calculator

Resin printing has costs that FDM doesn't: cleaning alcohol, FEP film and LCD screen wear, and UV curing. Our calculator considers it all for the real cost of your part.

Frequently asked questions

Which is cheaper, FDM or resin?

It depends on what you print. FDM filament is usually cheaper and skips the alcohol/film costs, but resin captures more detail on small parts. Use each calculator with your real numbers to compare.

I'm not sure if my printer is FDM or resin — how do I tell?

FDM pushes melted plastic through a nozzle (the most common type — Ender, Bambu Lab, Creality). Resin (SLA/MSLA) uses a vat of liquid cured layer by layer with UV light (Elegoo Mars, Anycubic Photon).
